- [{"title": "Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Environment: Morocco Highlights Importance of Arab Action, Contribution to Initiatives to Strengthen Climate Resilience", "time": null, "end_time": null, "summary": "Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Environment: Morocco Highlights Importance of Arab Action, Contribution to Initiatives to Strengthen Climate Resilience abdelmajid.madani Fri 02/10/2026 - 10:14 Morocco reaffirmed its commitment to joint Arab action in the environmental field, as well as its determination to contribute to initiatives and projects aimed at strengthening resilience and achieving a tangible impact on the lives of Arab citizens. This position was expressed Thursday in Cairo during the 37th session of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment, by the Moroccan delegation, which stressed the importance of strengthening Arab-African cooperation and South-South cooperation, particularly to combat desertification and drought, ensure water and food security, protect ecosystems and share successful experiences in accordance with the principle of solidarity among countries of the Global South. In this regard, the Kingdom considers that the challenges facing the Arab region require stronger Arab cooperation and greater exchange of expertise, knowledge and technologies, particularly in the areas of combating desertification and drought, land restoration, sustainable rangeland management, early warning systems, water management and nature-based solutions, in addition to mobilizing climate and environmental financing, facilitating access to international financial resources, and supporting technology transfer and capacity-building, in order to enable countries to turn common challenges into opportunities for development, investment and innovation. In this context, Morocco considers that the 31st session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, scheduled to take place in Antalya in the coming weeks, constitutes a further step toward strengthening international action on adaptation, financing and resilience-building. The Moroccan delegation stressed that the choice of the sustainability of rangelands and the strengthening of resilience as the theme of this session reflects the growing importance of these ecosystems in the Arab region, amid mounting pressures linked to climate change, water scarcity, drought, land degradation and biodiversity loss. In this context, Morocco attaches paramount importance to pastoral lands, which cover a vast area exceeding two-thirds of the national territory, as livestock farming constitutes a fundamental pillar of the economic and social activity of populations in pastoral areas, with pastoral activity being the main source of livelihood for the inhabitants of these regions. Given the major importance of these lands, the Kingdom has worked to develop the various links in the livestock production value chains and has planned several projects for the development and management of pastoral lands, as well as for the development of the red meat, dairy and camel farming sectors. Alongside these development initiatives and programs, the Kingdom has worked to adopt a pastoral legal framework suited to the profound changes experienced by rangelands, with the aim of regulating transhumance, establishing mechanisms for the sustainable management of pastoral resources and encouraging livestock breeders and their professional organizations to play an active role in the development of the sector, in order to ensure improved production and living conditions and help ease the burden on local populations, particularly during periods of drought. The Moroccan delegation also indicated that strengthening resilience requires moving from crisis management to anticipation, prevention, adaptation and investment in the sustainability of natural resources, noting that, in accordance with the High Royal Orientations, Morocco continues to implement integrated policies and strategies in the areas of climate, water, energy, biodiversity and combating land degradation. The Sovereign praises the level of trade and economic relations, which \"have never been so strong,\" and shares His conviction that relations between the two countries are moving toward their \"best phase.\" The Sovereign also welcomes the security and military cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the USA as a \"model of excellence \" and \"a major pillar\" for protecting both countries’ citizens, defending their shared values, and safeguarding their interests (...), citing the African Lion exercise, hosted by Morocco. His Majesty the King concludes His message to His Excellency the U.S. President by reiterating the unwavering commitment to move forward in bolstering and deepening the ties between the Moroccan and American nations. message_15054_en_1790950760.pdf (900.52 KB) Message Royaux Rabat", "location": null, "press_status": null, "source_url": "https://www.maroc.ma/ar/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AE%D8%B7%D8%A8-%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B1%D8%B3%D8%A7%D8%A6%D9%84-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D9%84%D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A9/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B1%D8%B3%D8%A7%D8%A6%D9%84-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D9%84%D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A9/%D8%B5%D8%A7%D8%AD%D8%A8-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AC%D9%84%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A9-%D9%8A%D8%A8%D8%B9%D8%AB-%D8%A8%D8%B1%D9%82%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D8%AA%D9%87%D9%86%D8%A6%D8%A9-%D8%A5%D9%84%D9%89-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B1%D8%A6%D9%8A%D8%B3-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A3%D9%85%D8%B1%D9%8A%D9%83%D9%8A-%D8%AF%D9%88%D9%86%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AF-%D8%AA%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A8-%D8%A8%D9%85%D9%86%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%A8%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D9%8A%D8%AF-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%88%D8%B7%D9%86%D9%8A", "category": "News", "published_at": "2026-10-02", "updated_at": null, "event_date": null, "timezone": null, "timezone_basis": "unknown", "timezone_evidence": null, "source_adapter": "rss", "source_tier": "official_government", "date_evidence": "Legacy publication-date grouping; original timestamp unavailable", "location_evidence": null, "subject_countries": [], "incoming_publication_at": "2026-10-02T14:06:39+00:00", "revision_recorded_at": "2026-10-04T07:13:00+00:00"}]

This vision was presented by Morocco’s ambassador to Argentina, Fares Yasser, alongside Othmane Badssi, a project officer at the Morocco 2030 Foundation, and Jihane Bijjou, head of customer journey at the same institution, during the event, which brought together professionals from sport, media, technology, innovation, and the entertainment industry. The speakers stressed that this ambition forms part of the Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who has made sport a lever for human, social, and territorial development, as well as a vehicle for inclusion and the fulfillment of young people. Yasser highlighted the unprecedented nature of this edition, which will connect three continents: Africa, through Morocco; Europe, through Spain and Portugal; and South America, where commemorative centenary matches are planned in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. The ambassador also stressed that the World Cup forms part of a broader transformation dynamic undertaken by the Kingdom, particularly in transport, infrastructure, tourism, and renewable energy. The objective, the Moroccan diplomat noted, is to make the investments linked to the 2030 deadline a lasting legacy serving the country’s development. Badssi, for his part, recalled that preparations for the World Cup are part of a process launched long ago, beginning with the 2008 National Sports Conference and the creation, a year later, of the Mohammed VI Football Academy, followed by the development of high-level sports infrastructure. This momentum encompasses the modernization and construction of stadiums, the development of training facilities, as well as the strengthening of airport, railway, and hotel capacity, following an approach that goes beyond the competition’s needs alone. Organized by Olé, the flagship sports publication of Clarín Group, one of Argentina’s leading media groups, the summit is being held at the Usina del Arte in Buenos Aires and continues on Wednesday. This year’s edition coincides with the media outlet’s 30th anniversary, and over the decades it has established itself as a reference in sports journalism in Argentina. During a ceremony chaired by the President of the AfDB Group, Sidi Ould Tah, who is currently visiting Morocco, and the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, the agreement was signed by the Country Manager of the AfDB Group in Morocco, Achraf Tarsim, and the Director General of the National Airports Office (ONDA), Adel El Fakir, according to a press release from the AfDB Group. \"Through the 270 million euro loan granted to ONDA, the AfDB supports the Kingdom of Morocco's ambition to modernize and expand its airport capacity, particularly in strategic hubs such as Marrakech, Agadir, Fez, and Tangier. The Bank is also contributing to Morocco's preparation efforts for major international events,\" stressed Ould Tah, as quoted by the same source. He specified that this operation also aligns with the continental momentum that the Bank actively drives through the Integrated Aviation Transformation Program in Africa (IATP). He noted that this program aims to support African states in modernizing, financing, and integrating their air transport systems in order to build a safer, more competitive, more sustainable, and better-connected sector. Marked notably by the presence of the Director General of Tamwilcom, Saïd Jabrani, this signing represents a major milestone in the transformation of the Moroccan airport sector and supports the Kingdom’s ambitions to strengthen its position as a leading aviation hub connecting Africa, Europe, and the rest of the world. In alignment with the \"Four Cardinal Points,\" the AfDB Group's operational vision, and Morocco's strategic priorities, this project supports the implementation of the Kingdom’s 2030 tourism vision. PEMIA aims to sustainably boost the competitiveness of Moroccan air transport through the modernization and expansion of the country's primary airport hubs. The program will increase the operational capacities of airports by upgrading infrastructure, expanding air navigation systems, and strengthening safety and security frameworks. These investments will notably equip airports with state-of-the-art security equipment, automated baggage handling systems, and digital solutions designed to streamline the passenger journey and improve their overall experience. These enhancements will offer travelers a safer, faster, and more comfortable service in line with the most demanding international standards. In response to the sustained growth in passenger and cargo traffic expected over the coming years, the project will help prepare Morocco's airport infrastructure for the Kingdom's future mobility and connectivity needs. By 2030, the program will expand handling capacity to 14 million passengers in Marrakech, 5 million in Agadir, 3.6 million in Tangier, and 3 million in Fez. These investments will consolidate Morocco's position as a regional aviation hub. Beyond infrastructure modernization, the program is expected to generate significant economic and social benefits. In the short term, it will contribute to enhancing the safety of airport operations and creating several thousand jobs, particularly for youth and women. In the medium term, it will foster the growth of tourism, trade, and logistics activities, while stimulating public and private investments associated with the air transport sector, the release concludes. - [{"title": "Morocco Advocates for Strengthened African Operational Coordination to Combat Crime, Terrorism & Separatist Movements", "time": null, "end_time": null, "summary": "Morocco Advocates for Strengthened African Operational Coordination to Combat Crime, Terrorism & Separatist Movements abdelmajid.madani Wed 30/09/2026 - 11:31 Morocco called Monday in Abu Dhabi, during the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held from September 26 to October 1, for stronger African operational coordination to combat crime, terrorism and separatist movements. Speaking at a high-level meeting under the theme \"Paving the Way to CONNECT’s Operationalization: Strengthening African-Led Operational Coordination against the Nexus between Crime and Terrorism”, Morocco’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and international organizations in Vienna, Azzeddine Farhane, stressed that the Kingdom, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has made South–South cooperation, particularly with our African continent, a fundamental pillar of its foreign policy, particularly the fight against terrorism, separatist movements and organized crime networks in the Sahel and Sahara region. In this context, he stressed that sustainable security cannot rely solely on security-based approaches, but requires a comprehensive vision that places people at the heart of policies, prevention as the foundation, cooperation as the tool, and trust as the bridge toward joint action. Farhane said that the challenge lies not only in creating new cooperation mechanisms, but in these mechanisms’ ability to generate trust, action and results, calling for a shift from political commitment to operational trust, from trust to cooperation, and from cooperation to concrete results on the ground. The diplomat also highlighted the importance of adapting the CONNECT Initiative to national and African contexts, an essential condition for ensuring its sustainability and effectiveness. He called for genuine partnerships based on priorities defined by African countries themselves, as well as international cooperation that responds to the region’s actual needs and strengthens its national and regional capacities. The Ambassador stressed the need to adopt a comprehensive and integrated approach to combating terrorism and separatist groups in the Sahel and Sahara, taking into account the growing links between terrorist groups, separatist movements and cross-border organized crime networks. This approach, he continued, requires stronger exchanges of training, exchanges of practitioners, capacity-building and coordination among national, regional and international institutions. In this regard, Farhane underscored the importance of moving from ad hoc cooperation to institutionalized and sustainable cooperation, and from simple information-sharing to building permanent networks of trust among the various services concerned, enabling them to strengthen their capacity to anticipate, prevent and effectively respond to cross-border threats. \"The success of the West Africa and Sahel Chapter will ultimately depend on our ability to transform political commitment that all of us agree into operational trust, operational trust into cooperation, and cooperation into concrete results on the ground for a safe world,\" he said. He added that this would help strengthen security and stability and develop a collective and sustainable African capacity to combat organized crime, terrorism and separatist movements in the Sahel and Sahara region. This high-level meeting was held as part of the UNODC’s CONNECT Initiative, which aims to strengthen operational coordination and cooperation, particularly in West Africa and the Sahel, in order to combat the links between crime and terrorism. The meeting focused on ways to move the West Africa and Sahel component of the CONNECT Initiative from the stage of political commitments to implementation on the ground and concrete operational measures, while strengthening African coordination in addressing interconnected and cross-border security threats. The meeting was attended by the ambassadors of Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ghana and Morocco, as well as the ambassadors of the European Union (EU) and Japan and the Italian ambassador to Vienna, in addition to senior officials from Nigeria and the African Union (AU). Non-agricultural activities recorded a sharp slowdown in growth, falling from 4.9% to 1.5%, while the agricultural sector experienced a marked acceleration, with its value added rising by 21.2% compared to 8.3% a year earlier,\" states the HCP in its briefing note on the national economic situation in Q2-2026. Driven primarily by domestic demand, this growth occurred in a context marked by controlled inflation and an worsening financing requirement for the national economy, the same source noted. Thus, the primary sector's value added registered a strong increase of 20.9% in Q2-2026, driven by growth in both agricultural activity (+21.2%) and fisheries (+15.9%). Regarding the secondary sector's value added in volume, seasonally adjusted (SA), it contracted by 3.9% in the second quarter of 2026, after recording an increase of 5.8% in the same quarter of the previous year. This sharp decline resulted from the combined effect of a drop in value added across mining/extractive industries (-28.6% compared to a 13.7% increase) and manufacturing (-3.2% compared to a 4.3% increase), alongside a slowdown in construction (2.8% down from 7.6%) and electricity and water (1.9% down from 3.8%). As for the tertiary sector's value added, its growth rate slowed to 4% this quarter, down from 4.5% in the same quarter of the previous year. At current prices, gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 4.4% in Q2-2026, pointing to a slowdown in the general price level to 0.4%. Morocco also ranks 4th among lower-middle-income economies, OMPIC added in a press release. The Kingdom stands out particularly in the intangible assets category, where it ranks 11th globally, moving up six spots from the previous edition, according to the same source.
