How we detect meetings between world leaders

The meetings page distinguishes confirmed in-person meetings, telephone calls and video calls from other source references.
Confirmation evidence
A confirmed interaction requires explicit action and participants in a linked source, with an occurrence date supported by the source. One authoritative readout can suffice. Two-sided corroboration is only claimed when both offices have linked evidence. Future plans remain scheduled.
Candidates stay separate
A name mention does not establish an interaction, and being in the same country does not establish a meeting. Mentions, joint announcements and possible co-presence remain labelled candidates or separate publication types. They do not enter confirmed meeting counts, pair timelines or the diplomacy network. Debunks and negated claims are not meeting evidence.
Research and corrections
Inspect source evidence in each record and download the documented interactions dataset. Substantive confirmed records can receive a dossier. Automated extraction is not independent editorial review; report corrections with the record ID and supporting source.
