SUMMARY:Smuggled handguns located in auto theft investigation
DESCRIPTION:We have charged one man who was in possession of two loaded handguns after he fled from a stolen vehicle in downtown Calgary. In early August\, investigators of the Auto Theft Team (ATT) became aware of a stolen Toyota Tundra that was believed to have been fraudulently re-vinned. Officers in ATT began investigating\, working to locate the vehicle as well as the man believed to be in possession of the truck\, who was wanted on eight outstanding criminal warrants. On Friday\, Aug. 21\, 2026\, the Tundra was located and a traffic stop was initiated in the Beltline community. The Tundra fled from police\, however\, officers located it unoccupied several blocks away. Several minutes later\, the suspect was observed hailing a cab from the scene. Patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on the cab\, at which time the suspect fled on foot. Following a brief foot chase\, the man was subsequently taken into custody with the assistance of the Canine Unit. Upon arrest\, officers located a Mac11 9 mm semi-automatic pistol\, a snub nose revolver and a suppressor. A search of the Tundra resulted in the seizure of a small amount of cocaine and methamphetamine\, 15 handgun receivers\, five additional suppressors\, 13 high-capacity magazines and numerous fraudulent identification cards. The handguns will undergo testing by our Firearms Investigative Team. At this time\, it is believed that both were purchased in Texas and smuggled into Canada. Jeremy SAUVE\, 41\, of Calgary is charged with: One count of flight from police One count of resisting arrest 17 counts of breaching a firearms prohibition Five counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or firearm Two counts of possession of a loaded firearm Two counts of possession of a firearm in a vehicle Two counts of carrying a concealed firearm Two counts of possession of a controlled substance Three counts of breach of a release order One count of possession of stolen property over $5\,000 SAUVE was also wanted on eight outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest\, including obstruction\, failing to appear in court and escaping lawful custody. SAUVE was remanded into custody and will next appear in court on Monday\, Sept. 14\, 2026. This investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are pending. SUMMARY:Calgary Fire Responds to Riverbend Garage Fire
DESCRIPTION:At around 8:40am fire crews responded to the 100 block of Riverview Close SE for a structure fire. On approach\, crews observed a large column of dark smoke and declared a working fire. Crews arrived at a two-story residential home with a front attached garage with heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the garage. Firefighters stretched multiple hose lines and began knocking down the fire from the driveway while other firefighters completed searches of the home and confirmed there was no one inside. The occupants had all self-exited and stated that they were alerted by a neighbour/passerby of the fire. There were no injuries reported. A vehicle was inside the garage at the time and also on fire. Crews checked for extension into the roof of the garage and the majority of the fire damage was confined to the garage. A fan was set up to ventilate the rest of the home from smoke. Fire investigators attended the scene and have started their investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. Emergency Health Services Alberta\, Calgary Police Services\, ATCO Gas and Enmax all attended the scene. Utilities to the home were isolated and a fire watch crew remains on scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation\; however\, the Calgary Fire Department would like to remind all Calgarians on some important safety tips around garages: Avoid clutter and storage of household waste such as old paints and aerosol cans. Routinely clean up and safely dispose of these items at an appropriate City of Calgary Facility in Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program . SUMMARY:Officer-involved shooting in Legacy
DESCRIPTION:The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a woman. On Wednesday\, Aug. 26\, 2026\, at approximately 1:20 a.m.\, police were called to a home in the 200 block of Legacy Circle S.E.\, to check on the welfare of a woman inside. At approximately 2:30 a.m.\, the woman exited the home with a weapon. The situation then escalated and one officer fired their Service weapon\, striking the woman. She was declared deceased at the scene. During the incident a gas meter ruptured\, causing a gas leak in the community. Officers assisted in evacuating homes affected by the leak\, escorting community members out of the area until the Calgary Fire Department could secure the scene. The cause of the gas leak has not been determined. Affected residents were able to return to their homes a short time later. One officer was transported to hospital for precautionary measures\, and another was evaluated by medics. We are thankful to report they are recovering. As is protocol with any officer-involved shooting\, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has taken over this investigation\, and no further information will be available. SUMMARY:Stage A Microtunneling Complete as Bearspaw South Feeder Main Advances on Schedule
DESCRIPTION:The Bearspaw South Feeder Main Replacement Project continues to advance on schedule\, and Stage A microtunneling and installation of the concrete carrier pipe is now complete. "The completion of Stage A microtunneling is a significant step forward for the project\," said Darren Finney\, Manager\, Major Projects. "This complex work involved tunneling beneath major infrastructure\, minimizing impacts on the community. With the concrete carrier pipe now in place\, we will continue installing the new steel feeder main\, preparing for the critical system connection work planned for the Fall." Stage A construction update Construction on Stage A of the new Bearspaw South Feeder Main began in January using microtunnelling. This method allows the new feeder main to be installed beneath existing infrastructure with minimal surface disruption. First\, a concrete carrier pipe is installed underground and then the new steel feeder main is placed inside it. Stage A construction has now completed approximately 3.7 kilometres of microtunnelling and the full installation of the concrete carrier pipe between the Shaganappi Pump Station and 73 Street N.W. Installation of the new steel feeder main remains on schedule\, with more than two kilometres of pipe now installed inside the carrier pipe. Stage B construction update Stage B open-cut construction along 34 Avenue N.W. in Bowness began in June and remains on schedule. More than 1 km of the new steel feeder main has now been installed\, with 40% of Stage B feeder main installation now complete. Construction is currently active on three blocks\, and four blocks where feeder main installation has been completed have reopened to traffic. Two additional blocks are expected to reopen next week. Construction is being completed in sections\, and roadways\, sidewalks and property access are being restored as work advances. Looking ahead In mid-October the Bearspaw South Feeder Main will need to be shut down to connect the new feeder main to the existing water system. Work on improving Calgary's drinking water system will begin in September with three phases. Work at the Shaganappi pump station to connect it to the new feeder main is estimated to begin in September. In addition\, unrelated work for the new North Calgary Water Servicing feeder main will mean the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant will need to be temporarily shut down in mid-September. There may be a need for temporary outdoor water restrictions\, but it will depend on the weather and water demand at that time. Teams are continuing to assess conditions and will make a final decision on restrictions closer to the start of work. Pipe tie-in connections are estimated to begin in mid-October at various locations along the new feeder main pipe and include open-cut construction similar to ongoing Stage B construction. Stage 4 outdoor water restrictions and indoor water conservation will be required during this time. Feeder main commissioning is estimated to begin in mid-November. This will include disinfecting the pipe\, filling it with water and taking the existing feeder main out of service. No restrictions are anticipated during this time. These estimated date ranges are subject to change based on construction timelines and project logistics. Parkdale Boulevard Repairs While the feeder main is shut down\, The City will complete six additional repairs on the feeder main between the Shaganappi Pump Station and the Memorial Pump Station along Parkdale Boulevard and Memorial Drive N.W. Recent condition assessments identified six locations on the 1500 mm section of the Bearspaw South Feeder main that require proactive repairs. While the 1500 mm and the 1950 mm pipe\, which is currently being replaced\, are both part of the same feeder main\, they are separate sections with different condition profiles. Assessments of the 1500 mm section show it remains in good overall condition and does not require replacement. Instead\, targeted repairs at specific locations will help maintain the pipe's long-term reliability. Completing this work while the feeder main is already out of service for planned connection work is the most efficient approach and helps reduce future risk and disruption. The repairs will involve 24/7 construction\, excavating six locations\, removing sections of pipe and replacing them with new steel segments. Community support We continue to work directly with residents\, businesses and property owners affected by construction and encourage anyone with questions or concerns to reach out. Community members can visit the project's Community Resource Centre at the Bowness Community Association. DESCRIPTION:Our thoughts remain with the family and all those impacted by the tragic death of Parker Wells. The City of Calgary recognizes the many ways community members continue to honour and remember Parker. The tributes that have been created in the days and weeks since Parker's passing reflect the care\, compassion and sense of community that many have felt in response to this tragedy. "We understand the desire to remember Parker and the importance these tributes hold for many people\," said Doug Morgan\, Chief Operating Officer – City Services. "We recognize that everyone grieves differently and that these memorials were created with heartfelt intentions." The City manages memorials in accordance with its internal processes and any applicable bylaws. Temporary memorial items such as flowers\, cards and stuffed animals left in parks are typically maintained for a short period before being respectfully removed and\, where appropriate\, offered to the family. Because these items are exposed to weather and environmental conditions\, they can deteriorate over time and create maintenance and safety concerns. Other tributes\, if defined as graffiti under The City’s bylaws\, are removed in accordance with established processes. Although Administration understands the intent behind the Parker tributes\, they have been removed in accordance with established operating practices. Their removal does not diminish the significance of his memory or the community’s desire to honour him. As stewards of public spaces across Calgary\, The City has a responsibility to approach these situations consistently and fairly\, while ensuring that everyone affected by this tragedy is treated with compassion\, dignity and respect. Prior to the removal\, those most directly affected were notified and expressed no concerns. While temporary memorials can provide an important outlet for community grief in the immediate aftermath of a loss\, permanent memorials offer an enduring way to honour and remember someone over time. For community members interested in exploring a lasting tribute to Parker\, Administration can provide guidance on the appropriate processes and requirements for permanent memorials. "While the methods used to honour Parker may vary\, the compassion and care behind them are clear\," said Morgan. SUMMARY:Police investigating random sexual assault
DESCRIPTION:Our Sexual Assault Investigative Unit is currently investigating a reported sexual assault that occurred at the Southland LRT station overnight. On Tuesday\, Aug. 25\, 2026\, at around 1 a.m.\, officers were called to the Southland CTrain Station parking lot\, located at 10158 Sacramento Dr. S.W.\, after witnesses reported a vulnerable woman in distress who appeared to have been sexually assaulted. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition. Investigators believe the woman did not know the man prior to the attack. The suspect is described as speaking with an accent and having dark brown hair. Witnesses reported seeing a mid-sized\, black SUV with chrome trim around the windows flee the area. As a result of this incident\, the CPS will be conducting high-profile patrols in this area over the coming days. The victim of this incident has been offered various supports from the Calgary Sexual Assault Response Team (CSART) and the Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse (CCASA). DESCRIPTION:Calgary Transit is making it easier for customers to navigate their trips on the road\, with new onboard display screens on buses and community shuttles. Passengers can view real-time route detail\, route number\, requested stops\, upcoming stops\, and estimated arrival times\, as well as service announcements. “Customers want accurate\, consistent and timely information to help them make decisions during their trip\,” said Dennis Uvbiama\, Manager\, Service Vehicles\, Calgary Transit. “They also want to know about service changes or disruptions that may affect their journey. These new screens deliver useful information to customers where and when they need it.” As part of a pilot project\, Calgary Transit has installed new 21- or 29-inch screens on 100 service vehicles. Starting in October 2026\, we plan to roll out passenger screens broadly across our 1\,000-plus fixed route bus and shuttle fleet\, with installation expected to be completed by early 2027. This enhancement is possible because we’ve modernized the CAD/AVL/APIS (Computer-Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location/Advanced Passenger Information) system we use to share real-time vehicle tracking and manage our bus fleet operations. The system integrates dispatching\, safety\, emergency response\, and communication with our Transit Control Centre\, helping improve service reliability and trim passenger waiting times. SUMMARY:Police seek to identify suspect in southeast arson
DESCRIPTION:We are asking for the public’s help to identify a woman believed to be responsible for an arson that destroyed a detached garage and vehicle. On Saturday\, July 18\, 2026\, at approximately 12:25 p.m.\, Calgary Police Service (CPS) officers on patrol observed heavy smoke coming from a residential area near 17 Avenue and 42 Street S.E. After locating the fire in a detached garage in the 1800 block of 42 Street S.E.\, officers secured the scene and evacuated nearby residents. Investigators believe the suspect approached the detached garage\, lit a piece of paper on fire and placed it under the garage door\, causing approximately $50\,000 in damages. The suspect is described as a woman between 16 and 24 years old\, approximately 5'4" tall\, with a slim build. At the time of the incident\, she was wearing an all-black tracksuit\, a black baseball cap and white shoes\, and was carrying a black-and-pink backpack. The suspect is believed to frequent the Forest Lawn community. As the suspect may be a youth\, the Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits the release of identifying images. SUMMARY:Two motorcyclists hospitalized following weekend collisions
DESCRIPTION:Calgary police are reminding motorists to be cautious\, following two collisions over the weekend that sent two motorcyclists to hospital with life-threatening injuries. On Saturday\, Aug. 22\, 2026\, at approximately 2:15 p.m.\, a 58-year-old man was riding a 2019 Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on 130 Avenue S.E.\, approaching 46 Street S.E. The motorcycle struck the concrete median and the rider was thrown from the bike\, sustaining life-threatening injuries. Just over an hour later\, at 3:30 p.m.\, a 25-year-old man was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am south on Deerfoot Trail\, about to exit on to Glenmore Trail. While still in the far right lane\, the Grand Am rear-ended a 2011 Suzuki SV650 motorcycle\, operated by a 30-year-old man. The motorcycle then hit the back of a 2011 Dodge Durango\, driven by a 62-year-old woman\, with four passengers inside. As a result of that collision\, the truck was pushed into a 2004 Toyota Camry\, driven by a 17-year-old male\, with one passenger inside. After colliding with the motorcycle\, the Grand Am also struck a 2008 Toyota RAV4 being driven by a 29-year-old woman. The operator of the motorcycle was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries\, and the driver of the Grand Am was taken with minor injuries. Neither speed\, nor alcohol or drugs were believed to be factors in either collision. This weekend’s incidents are a reminder that operators of any vehicle\, whether a car\, truck\, or motorcycle\, need to constantly be aware of their surroundings\, including barriers and other vehicles that at times\, may be difficult to see. SUMMARY:Two people face 189 charges in fraud investigation
DESCRIPTION:District 6 patrol members have arrested a man and a woman after receiving reports that several Costco store locations were defrauded of more than $30\,000 over a period of approximately three months. On Friday\, April 24\, 2026\, police were contacted after reports of an unknown woman was suspected of making a series of fraudulent purchases at multiple Costco stores in Calgary and the surrounding area. Police began investigating and determined that between Thursday\, April 9 and Tuesday\, June 30\, 2026\, the woman had repeatedly used fraudulent or altered UPC codes assigned to lower cost items to obtain high-value electronics including desktop computers\, TVs\, gaming consoles and sound equipment. It is believed an unknown man also participated in making fraudulent transactions with the woman. On Saturday\, Aug. 1\, 2026\, police executed a search warrant in the 0 to 100 block of Cornerbrook Manor N.E.\, and both suspects were arrested and the following items were seized: 302.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine with a street value of $6\,048 Digital scales and packaging materials consistent with drug trafficking Multiple instruments used for forgery and fraud\, including: Credit card manufacturing equipment Credit card scanners Card skimming devices Credit cards that appeared to have been altered 31 credit cards A stolen 65-inch Samsung television Two receipt printing machines Various other items believed to be stolen and false identification documents As a result\, Kristie Marie CONSTANTINOFF\, 41\, is facing 70 charges\, and Aaron Lee HEAD\, 39\, is facing 119 charges. They are each charged with 12 counts of possession of identity documents\, 31 counts of possession of stolen credit cards\, nine counts of possession of property obtained by crime\, two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking\, one count of possession of instruments for copying credit card data or forging and falsifying credit cards and one count of possession of stolen property. CONSTANTINOFF is scheduled to next appear in court on Friday\, Sept. 11\, 2026. HEAD is scheduled to next appear in court on Wednesday\, Aug. 26\, 2026. “This investigation demonstrates the significant impact that fraud can have on individuals and businesses in our community\,” says District 6 Inspector Scott Neilson of the Calgary Police Service. “Fraud offences are often complex and can involve numerous victims and substantial financial losses\, and we want to thank the affected businesses for coming forward. SUMMARY:Safer routes help students start school year with confidence
DESCRIPTION:With students heading back to classes and school loading zones about to get busier\, The City of Calgary has completed safety upgrades at 50 schools in 2026 across the city to help make daily commutes safer for children and families. The upgrades include new pedestrian crossings\, curb extensions\, speed cushions and other traffic-calming measures designed to slow vehicles\, improve visibility and reduce risk in areas where students are walking\, wheeling and crossing the street. “These improvements are about creating safer\, more comfortable routes for students and their families\,” said Traffic Engineer Surendra Mishra. “Whether children are walking to school\, riding a bike or arriving with their parents\, every improvement helps reduce risk and increases awareness for everyone using the road.” The work includes proven safety improvement measures such as curb extensions and Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) at schools across Calgary. Curb extensions shorten crossing distances and make pedestrians more visible to approaching drivers. Studies have shown that curb extensions help to reduce collisions by 30-45 per cent. RRFBs improve drivers' yielding compliance to pedestrians resulting in 30-40 per cent collision reduction. When these treatments are combined\, safety at an intersection improves dramatically\, resulting in 70-80 per cent collision reduction. In addition to pedestrian-focused improvements\, traffic-calming measures have been added near dozens of schools. New speed cushions and speed humps were installed at 17 schools in 2026 to help slow traffic in playground zones and residential areas\, encouraging safer driving behaviour where children are most likely to be present. Results have indicated that speed cushions result in an average of 7 km/h speed reduction on a 50 km/h roadway. This work supports Vision Zero and reflects The City’s continued partnership with the Calgary Police Service to make streets safer and save lives. Together\, education\, enforcement and street improvements help reduce vehicle speeds\, increase driver awareness and create a more predictable environment for everyone. “With more traffic on the roads this time of year\, there is an increase in risk especially to young pedestrians\, cyclists\, and other vulnerable road users\,” said Calgary Police Service Insp. Robbie Patterson. “Drivers need to be especially vigilant around schools and playground zones. Not only does that mean slowing down\, but it also means paying attention to the task at hand and avoiding all distractions including phones or anything else that could take your eyes of the road.” Parking behaviour is also a key part of playground zone safety. Through the School Patrol Program\, Parking Safety and Compliance officers support safer drop-off and pick-up times by educating drivers\, encouraging voluntary compliance and addressing unsafe parking behaviours that can reduce visibility or create risk for children and other road users. “Playground zones are busiest when families are under pressure and that is when safe parking choices matter most\,” said Todd Sullivan\, Coordinator\, Parking Safety and Compliance\, Mobility\, The City of Calgary. “Through our School Patrol program\, our officers are there to educate drivers\, answer questions and reinforce the behaviours that keep children visible\, including keeping crosswalks\, corners\, bus zones and no-stopping areas clear. DESCRIPTION:The City of Calgary is launching Beyond the Badge\, a new educational program that brings Community Peace Officers into Grade 9 classrooms to help students explore citizenship\, community safety and career opportunities in public service. The free program combines curriculum-connected lessons with real-world learning experiences designed to build confidence\, teamwork and civic responsibility. Through interactive lessons in Social Studies\, English and Health\, students will engage in discussions and activities that connect classroom learning to real community issues. The program helps students better understand the role Community Peace Officers play in supporting safe communities while encouraging students to consider how they can contribute positively to the city around them. Teachers participating in the program receive a ready-to-use manual developed by certified educators and Community Peace Officers. SUMMARY:Man wanted on warrants for fraud and money laundering
DESCRIPTION:We are asking the public to help us locate a man wanted on several outstanding warrants for fraud and money laundering in connection with the victimization of people he encountered as a construction contractor dating back to 2024. On Friday\, Dec. 6\, 2024\, the victim began communicating with a man through Facebook Marketplace about building a sauna at his residence. The man provided several quotes before the two agreed on a price of $2\,730\, to be paid by e-transfer. On Sunday\, Dec. 8\, 2024\, the victim paid a 50 per cent deposit. Over the following weeks\, the man attended the residence and took measurements for the project. On Friday\, Jan. 17\, 2025\, the man advised the victim he could no longer deliver the product and said he would issue a full refund. The refund was never received\, and the victim was unable to contact the man. The incident was subsequently reported to police. In a similar incident\, on Thursday\, May 29\, 2025\, a victim contacted the same man through a Facebook advertisement for construction services. The victim was seeking to have a sitting area built at his residence. After attending the property and assessing the work\, the man provided a quote of $6\,500 plus tax. The parties agreed that half of the cost would be paid as a deposit by e-transfer. The victim paid a deposit of $3\,412.50. Although the man later delivered materials to the residence\, he repeatedly provided excuses for not beginning the work. When the victim requested a full refund\, the man refused and became aggressive in text messages. The incident was then reported to police. Investigators identified the suspect as Mitchel LANDRY\, 35\, who is also known to use the alias Mitch Ryan online. Through the investigation\, officers determined LANDRY was linked to both incidents. He is also known to operate under the company names Silverado Lawn and Snow and The Deck Experts. Investigators further determined neither business was registered in Alberta. LANDRY is wanted on warrants for: Fraud under $5\,000 Money laundering Numerous attempts to locate him have been unsuccessful\, and we are seeking information from the public regarding his whereabouts. Investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. LANDRY is described as 6' tall and approximately 185 pounds\, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is believed to be driving a 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck bearing Alberta licence plate CWH4036. SUMMARY:Two youth charged following electric dirt bike chase
DESCRIPTION:Two male youth are facing several charges after fleeing from police on electric dirt bikes. Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday\, Aug.18\, 2026\, police responded to reports of three people performing stunts and operating electric dirt bikes dangerously in the southwest community of Coach Hill. Officers attempted to stop the three riders\, however they fled from police. HAWCS assisted in tracking the three bikes as the riders continued to evade police\, dangerously driving through residential neighbourhoods. Two of the riders were ultimately arrested. Both are now facing charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle and flight from police\, under the Criminal Code of Canada. Calgarians should be aware that electric dirt bikes cannot legally be operated on public roads\, sidewalks\, pathways or parks and that operating any vehicle in a careless or dangerous manner has consequences. SUMMARY:91 warrants executed downtown as part of joint initiative
DESCRIPTION:Eighteen people were arrested\, 91 outstanding warrants were executed and more than $3\,000 in outstanding fines were paid during a co-ordinated enforcement initiative targeting wanted suspects earlier this month. On Aug. 5 and 6\, 2026\, we partnered with the Alberta Sheriffs’ Fugitive Apprehension Sheriffs Support Team (FASST) to locate individuals wanted on outstanding criminal and non-criminal warrants in downtown Calgary and the surrounding area. Of the warrants executed: 77 were criminal warrants\, 25 of which were related to violent offences 14 were non-criminal warrants Many of the warrants executed were related to assault of a peace officer\, resisting arrest\, possession of a dangerous weapon\, assault with a weapon\, hazardous storage of a firearm\, breach of probation\, failure to attend court or failure to comply with release orders. “This operation demonstrates the value of proactive enforcement and strong partnerships\,” says Sgt. Chelsea Karpenko with the Calgary Police Service (CPS). “This work does not stop here. Investigators from the CPS and Alberta Sheriffs continue to actively pursue additional wanted individuals using intelligence gathered throughout this operation. Holding offenders accountable and ensuring they answer to outstanding warrants remains an important part of maintaining safe communities.” “Operations like this demonstrate the strength of law enforcement partnerships in Alberta\,” says Insp. SUMMARY:Man charged in southwest assault
DESCRIPTION:One man has been charged following random assaults that occurred last week in the city’s southwest. Around 7:30 a.m.\, Thursday\, Aug. 13\, 2026\, as part of District 8’s Crime Reduction Strategy\, members of patrol were conducting a proactive deployment at the Somerset-Bridlewood CTrain station when they were approached by a man suffering injuries to his face. The victim reported that an unknown man had aggressively confronted a woman on the CTrain platform while shouting racial slurs at her before striking her in the face. When the victim stepped in to intervene\, he was then also assaulted before the suspect fled eastbound on the platform. Officers pursued the suspect on foot while additional units quickly established containment. With assistance from Calgary Transit Public Safety\, the suspect was prevented from re-entering the CTrain system and was located nearby a short time later. The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault. At this time investigators have not been able to speak to the woman who was also assaulted and ask her or anyone else who may have witnessed the assaults to contact police. As a result of his arrest\, Steepan SURANE\, 38\, of Calgary\, has been charged with one count of assault and one count of obstruction to a peace officer. SURANE was also arrested on 11 outstanding warrants. He will next appear in court on Friday\, Aug. 21\, 2026. Hate-motivation is being investigated as a potential factor in the assault. "This incident is deeply concerning and has no place in our community\, everyone deserves to feel safe using public transit and going about their daily lives without fear of violence or hate\,” says District 8 Insp. Darry Midtdal. “We remain committed to holding those responsible accountable and encouraging anyone who witnesses or experiences similar behaviour to report it to police." Since mid-April\, District 8 Community Resource Officers (CROs) have been conducting targeted enforcement at the Somerset-Bridlewood\, Shawnessy and Fish Creek-Lacombe CTrain stations in response to ongoing crime\, disorder and public safety concerns. The CROs are leading the enforcement and community engagement initiative as part of the district’s comprehensive Crime Reduction Strategy. With support from the Community Engagement Response Team and patrol members\, officers carried out enforcement and outreach activities\, including weekday morning deployments on platforms and trains during peak commuter periods. SUMMARY:Man wanted in relation to downtown assault
DESCRIPTION:Update: Devontae TRAVERSE\, 22\, who was wanted in relation to this file\, has been located. We are asking for the public’s help to locate a man wanted in connection with an incident that left three people injured in downtown Calgary. At about 11:40 p.m. on Friday\, Aug. 14\, 2026\, we responded to reports of a disturbance at Spanky’s Saloon\, located at 219 10th Ave. S.W. Upon arrival\, we located three injured men\, one of whom appeared to have a stab wound. All three were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe all three victims were assaulted by the same individual. The suspect was not previously known to any of the victims. Through the investigation\, the suspect has been identified as Devontae TRAVERSE\, 22. He is currently wanted on a warrant for multiple charges\, including three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of breaches of a court order. Investigative avenues to locate him have been exhausted and we are now asking for the public’s help. SUMMARY:Fatal collision on Tsuut’ina Trail under investigation
DESCRIPTION:Our Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred last night in southwest Calgary. At approximately 8 p.m.\, on Friday\, Aug. 14\, 2026\, a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am\, driven by a man in his 20s\, was travelling southbound on Tsuut’ina Trail S.W.\, approaching 90th Avenue S.W.\, when the vehicle left the roadway and struck the concrete base of a sign pole. First responders extricated the driver from the vehicle and transported him to hospital\, where he later died. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Speed and impairment are not believed to be factors in the collision. The investigation is ongoing. So far in 2026\, there have been 18 fatal collisions\, resulting in 22 fatalities. DESCRIPTION:In an ongoing commitment to improving safety around storm ponds\, The City of Calgary will be installing additional safety measures at 15 city storm ponds this year beginning in mid-August. Th rough a review of ponds across The City\, the se locations were identified as the highest priority for safety enhancements. Storm ponds are part of The City of Calgary’s stormwater infrastructure and are in many communities across the city. They are marked by caution signs following the perimeter of the pond\, reminding people that going into or onto storm ponds is strictly prohibited. Safety enhancements will include replacing old caution signage with new signage\, installing new interpretive signage to increase awareness of risks\, and increasing thorny and dense vegetation to create a barrier to the storm pond. Permanent partial fencing and temporary seasonal fencing will also aid in creating a physical barrier to public access. Storm ponds have been assessed to determine what safety measures will be applied at each pond. Ongoing field assessments will continue to identify additional storm ponds that require safety enhancements. Current storm pond safety work can be viewed on the storm pond map available on calgary.ca/stormponds . Storm pond safety is a priority for The City of Calgary with a focus on educating the public and creating awareness that recreational activities on storm ponds year-round are prohibited in accordance with the City Stormwater Bylaw . DESCRIPTION:Thousands of Calgarians now have safer\, legal housing options through The City of Calgary’s Secondary Suite Incentive Program \, which committed $45 million in federal and municipal investments so far to help homeowners build\, improve and legalize secondary suites. “This is an achievement owned by Calgarians who stepped up\, utilizing incentives that resulted in thousands of new housing options in our city\,” says Josh Howes\, Suites Manager\, Development\, Business and Building Services. “Giving renters confidence that their home has been reviewed and approved by The City is an important outcome\, as all Calgarians deserve to feel safe in their home.” The incentive program\, which provided qualified homeowners up to $10\,000 to cover a portion of construction costs\, significantly contributed to the expansion of safe housing in Calgary\, doubling the number of suites on the Secondary Suite Registry from 13\,000 in 2024 to 26\,000 today. “We started with just 431 registered suites in 2015. Today\, new registered secondary suites represent a quarter of all new units added in Calgary over the past three years. That growth shows homeowners are choosing to meet safety standards\, complete inspections and provide renters with a suite that is legal and safe\,” says Cliff De Jong\, Manager of Programs and Services\, Development\, Business and Building Services. The Secondary Suite Incentive Program is part of Home is Here\, The City of Calgary’s Housing Strategy. “At less than $10\,000 per door\, this program has been the most efficient and cost-effective way to create thousands of new homes across Calgary\,” says Reid Hendry\, Chief Housing Officer. “By helping homeowners add safe\, legal secondary suites\, we’ve vastly increased the supply of market-affordable rental homes in established communities where people already have access to services and amenities." SUMMARY:Man charged following 2025 fatal collision
DESCRIPTION:We have charged one person following a fatal collision that occurred in the city’s northeast last year. On Monday\, July 21\, 2025\, a man was driving a pick-up truck south in the northbound lanes of 52 Street N.E.\, when he struck a female pedestrian in her 50s. The pedestrian died at the scene. The truck continued travelling south\, colliding with an oncoming SUV\, before coming to a stop and bursting into flames. The driver of that SUV\, a 33-year-old woman\, and the passenger\, a 35-year-old man\, were both taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was taken to hospital with serious injuries. On Tuesday\, Aug. 11\, 2026\, following a lengthy investigation by the CPS Traffic Section\, Rami HAMDAN\, 26\, of Calgary was arrested and charged with one count of criminal dangerous driving causing death and two counts of criminal dangerous driving causing bodily harm. DESCRIPTION:We are asking for the public’s help as we continue to investigate an armed robbery that occurred at a southwest business. At approximately 11:43 p.m.\, on Monday\, Aug. 10\, 2026\, we received reports that two masked men entered Austin’s Bar and Grill\, located at 11625 Elbow Drive S.W. It is believed the men had a firearm and ordered staff and patrons to the ground before stealing cash from the business. The suspects fled the area in what witnesses describe as a dark SUV. SUMMARY:Eight charged\, 18 firearms seized in organized crime investigation
DESCRIPTION:We have charged eight individuals and seized 18 firearms and $58\,500 worth of drugs following an 11-month investigation into an alleged drug-trafficking and organized-crime network operating in Calgary. In September 2025\, police became aware of a man believed to be involved in drug trafficking in Calgary. The CPS Organized Crime Enforcement Team began investigating and quickly identified a network of individuals who were believed to be engaged in drug trafficking\, firearms offences\, vehicle re-vinning and prescription fraud. Throughout the course of the investigation\, officers wrote 74 judicial authorizations\, executed 15 search warrants and seized dozens of exhibits\, including digital devices and physical evidence. Due to the scope of the investigation\, searches and arrests were co-ordinated in a multi-phased approach. Prescription fraud investigation leads to charges On Wednesday\, Dec. 17\, 2025\, investigators executed search warrants at a residence located in the 253200 block of 84 Street\, in Delacour\, Alta.\, a residence located in the 100 block of Clearwater Terrace\, in Chestermere\, Alta.\, and a Jeep associated with the suspects. During these searches\, we seized: $7\,690 in cash and a cash counter Several forged prescription documents Prescription medication believed to be obtained with forged prescriptions A radio-frequency jammer In March 2026\, a man and woman were arrested. Ausama MOHAMED\, 28\, of Chestermere\, is charged with two counts each of possession of the proceeds of crime and possession of forged documents. He has since been released and will appear in court on Tuesday\, Sept. 15\, 2026. Bonnie LEBLANC\, 40\, of Delacour\, is charged with seven counts of uttering a forged document and six counts of possession of the proceeds of crime. She has since been released and will appear in court on Monday\, Aug. 31\, 2026. Drug-trafficking investigation leads to firearm and drug seizures On Monday\, March 9\, 2026\, investigators executed search warrants at a residence located in the 100 block of Cityside Grove N.E.\, an apartment located in the 200 block of 13 Avenue S.W.\, and three vehicles. During these searches\, we seized: A loaded Girsan MC14 BDA handgun 137 rounds of ammunition $15\,410 in cash 160.2 grams of methamphetamine 115.1 grams of cocaine 23 OxyContin pills Other items consistent with drug trafficking\, including packaging materials\, buffing agent and cell phones Of note\, officers located 107 individually wrapped baggies of methamphetamine and cocaine that had been concealed in the door panelling of the vehicles searched. Two men have since been charged. Mohammed SALIMI\, 22\, and Omed SALIMI\, 25\, both of Calgary\, are each charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of the proceeds of crime over $5\,000. Both men were released from custody. Mohammed SALIMI will appear in court on Friday\, Aug. 28\, 2026\, and Omed SALIMI\, will appear in court on Wednesday\, Aug. 26\, 2026. Traffic stop leads to further drug-trafficking charges On Tuesday\, March 10\, 2026\, members of our Gang Suppression Team also conducted a traffic stop on an individual also believed to be involved in drug trafficking. The vehicle was seized for examination\, and the suspect was arrested on an outstanding warrant. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the following items that had been concealed behind a panel between the vehicle’s gear shift and infotainment centre: A loaded Smith & Wesson SD9 VE handgun A baggie of ammunition 128.8 grams of powder and crack cocaine\, packaged into 63 individual baggies Brass knuckles Investigators issued warrants for the arrest of the suspect\, who had been released the previous day\, and on Monday\, July 13\, 2026\, he was arrested after fleeing from a traffic stop in the community of Thorncliffe. Upon his arrest\, officers located the following items: 46.3 grams of powder and crack cocaine\, in 39 individually wrapped baggies 11 pills suspected to be fentanyl A small amount of cash Jayson McCORMACK\, 21\, of Calgary\, was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count each of resisting arrest\, carrying a concealed firearm\, unsafe storage of a firearm\, unauthorized possession of a firearm\, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle\, possession of a firearm with ammunition\, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of the proceeds of crime. McCORMACK was released from custody and will appear in court on Monday\, Aug. 31\, 2026. Additional arrests made in firearms and drug-trafficking investigation On Thursday\, March 26\, 2026\, with the assistance of the RCMP Emergency Response Team\, a property in the 245000 block of Range Road 283 in Rocky View County\, Alta.\, was searched. One man was arrested at the residence. On the same day\, investigators in Calgary searched an apartment located in the 1800 block of 26 Avenue S.W.\, and arrested two men as they attended a scheduled probation appointment. Two vehicles were also searched. During these searches\, we seized: 13 rifles\, including four that were hidden in a concealed room Two loaded handguns\, including a 9 mm Taurus and a 9 mm Hellcat A loaded Churchill shotgun More than 760 rounds of assorted ammunition Body armour 81.8 grams of powder and crack cocaine\, in individually wrapped baggies 64.8 grams of MDMA $9\,630 in cash A stolen Dodge Challenger A stolen Dodge Ram that had been re-vinned Scales\, drug packaging materials and multiple cell phones A baseball bat\, crowbars and a mask\, found in a vehicle On Thursday\, July 16\, 2026\, two men were arrested and charged. Warrants were issued for a third man on Tuesday\, July 21\, 2026. Ahed ALWAN\, 30\, of Calgary\, is charged with one count each of breach of a firearms prohibition\, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number\, possession of a firearm with ammunition\, unauthorized possession of a firearm\, unsafe storage of a firearm and possession of the proceeds of crime. ALWAN was held in custody and will appear in court on Thursday\, Aug. 13\, 2026. Asrar MANSOURI\, 29\, of Calgary\, is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count each of carrying a concealed firearm\, unsafe storage of a firearm\, unauthorized possession of a firearm\, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle\, possession of a firearm with ammunition\, possession of the proceeds of crime and possession of a controlled substance. MANSOURI was released from custody and will appear in court on Friday\, Aug. 21\, 2026. Christopher HAYWARD\, 45\, of Calgary\, is charged with four counts of breaching a firearms prohibition\, two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count each of unsafe storage of a firearm\, unauthorized possession of a firearm\, carrying a concealed firearm\, impersonation to gain advantage and possession of the proceeds of crime. SUMMARY:Active shooter near Edworthy Park
DESCRIPTION:The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating an active-shooter incident that resulted in one officer being shot following a traffic stop in the southwest community of Spruce Cliff near Edworthy Park. At approximately 11:45 a.m.\, today\, Monday\, Aug. 10\, 2026\, members were conducting a traffic stop when an occupant of the vehicle fired shots\, striking one of our officers. Following the shooting\, a man fled the vehicle on foot into Edworthy Park and toward the Bow River. During this time\, it is believed the suspect continued to actively shoot at pursuing members and nearby civilians. It is believed he then carjacked an individual\, driving through the park until the vehicle became stuck\, at which point he exited the vehicle and resumed on foot. Throughout the incident\, HAWCS was utilized to locate the suspect and report the movements of the suspect to direct our officers on the ground. Prior to officers on the ground reaching the suspect\, he was located deceased in the river. The Calgary Fire Department is assisting with the recovery of the suspect. We are relieved to report the injured officer was taken to hospital and is currently in stable condition. Officers are currently searching Edworthy Park for any additional evidence. This was a dynamic incident and new information is still coming forward. Any witnesses are asked to make contact with officers on scene or call our non-emergency line. As is standard practice with any officer-involved shooting\, ASIRT has been called to investigate. No further details are available at this time.
